Swordtails (Xiphophorus hellerii) are popular tropical aquarium fish known for their distinctive sword-like tails and vibrant colours. To ensure their well-being in your aquarium, provide a tank with a temperature range of 72-82°F (22-28°C). These livebearers prefer a roomy tank with plenty of swimming space and plants for hiding.
Swordtails are omnivorous, so feed them a varied diet of high-quality flakes, pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods. Maintaining water quality is crucial, so regular water changes, filtration, and monitoring of pH (around 7-8) and hardness levels (10-25 dGH) are essential.
Swordtails are peaceful but can be territorial, so offer them companions of similar size and temperament. With proper care, swordtails will thrive, reproduce readily, and add colour and activity to your tropical aquarium.
